Executive Director
San Clemente Ocean Festival
​The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the overall strategic and operational leadership of the organization, including financial stewardship and fundraising, community outreach, and administration. Requirements

Excellent “people skills” to lead, inspire, motivate, delegate, and work harmoniously with contractors, volunteers, committees, members, and the public

Proven ability as a self-starter who works independently and collaboratively with team members

Demonstrated strong time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and complete tasks with an attention to detail

Capable spokesperson, who is proficient in verbal and written communication, including MS Word, Excel, Constant Contact, and Google Suite of Programs

Enthusiastic about promoting the organization’s Mission and Values

Attend all Board meetings (including Executive Committee), provide necessary information to the Board, and implement all Board policies and procedures

The ability to work nights and weekends
Summary of Duties
-
Update contacts and Event information in database and maintain accurate records
-
Together with Executive Committee, manage the coordination and execution of tasks, according to Event timeline

General office administrative support as needed such as updating and retrieving voicemail messages and responding to phone & email inquiries

Lead all fundraising efforts, generate annual cash & in-kind sponsorship of event, develop sponsor packets, programs, offerings, and strategy

Attend City and community events in an effort to promote SCOF, gain sponsors, recruit volunteers, and foster partnerships

Effectively liaise with sponsors, City staff, Board members, volunteers, and others as needed

Work with the Board for the planning and execution of annual Event from conception to completion, ensuring all aspects are aligned with objectives

Together with Area Chairs, contract service-providers, suppliers, and vendors to secure necessary resources for the Event

Work with the Board to develop and manage Event budgets, ensuring all expenses are tracked and reported accurately

Work with the Logistics Director, to ensure successful execution of the logistical plan, including setup, breakdown, and on-site event management

Collaborate with Marketing team to promote Event, recruit sponsors, and drive attendance (collateral materials, make Wix web updates, press releases, social media messaging)

Together with the Executive Committee, identify, analyze, and resolve problems as they arise

Provide exceptional customer service to Sponsors before, during, and after the Event

Conduct post-event evaluations to assess success and identify areas for improvement

Working Conditions at the Event

The ability to work in all weather conditions

Lift supplies of up to 30 pounds

Ability to traverse the event site on the sand and stand for hours
Schedule
-
As a Part Time position, the Executive Director’s workload will build up through the calendar year and peak at the Event. The SCOF is an annual event that takes place on the beach and pier in San Clemente on the 3rd full weekend in July. The Board operates throughout the year to plan the Event. The position has a generally flexible schedule, with the exception of attending evening Board meetings, usually twice per month.
Compensation
-
The part time exempt employee is paid via W-2 wages that generally vary according to the expected workload. The E.D. is paid commission on fundraising, and s/he may be eligible for a Bonus in Year 2.
