‘All Ages’ Fishing Derby & Children’s Fishing Clinic

Saturday, 6:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Registration, Clinic & Derby | 12:15 p.m. Awards

Sponsored by Dana Wharf Sportfishing

Children 12 and under:

  • Only "Game Fish" are eligible

  • Fish must be weighed at time it is caught to be eligible

  • Fish must be hooked and reeled in by the child

  • Prizes awarded for largest three fish.

 

All ages 13 and older:

  • 2 Categories: Largest "Game Fish" and Largest Shark/Bat Ray

  • Fish/Shark/Bat Ray must be measured in at time it is caught to be eligible

  • Prizes awarded for top TWO largest game fish

  • Prize awarded for the largest shark or bat ray

PLEASE NOTE: 

All participants under 18 must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian. Participants must provide own fishing tackle, tables/chairs, etc. for use in the derby. 50% discount on rentals and bait at San Clemente Pier, Grill and Tackle for participants during derby.

Saturday, 7:30 a.m. Registration/Check-In @Children’s Pavilion, South of Pier

For Kids ages 12 and under.

 

HOW TO ENTER:

Pre-register online now for $25 by July 19th at 11:59 p.m. Space is limited!

 

Beach sign-ups are $30 and SUBJECT TO SPACE AVAILABILITY. Registration fee includes a commemorative Ocean Festival tee shirt and goodie bag. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. 

AWARDS:

All participants will receive a finisher’s medal.

 

DIVISIONS:

9:00 a.m.  //  Ages 4 – 6 (½ mile course)

9:20 a.m.  //  Ages 7 – 9 (¾ mile course)

9:40 a.m.  //  Ages 10 – 12 (1 mile course)

Registration and check-in begins at 5:30 a.m.

Competition begins at 6:30 a.m. 

 

​These fun filled day of surfing is open to girls and boys age 14 and under.

RULES: 

Only the 7 & under "Push-In” Division may be assisted by an adult. Surfers can ride any length board they choose. Judging criteria is based on wave selection, length or ride, ability & having fun.

Boys & Girls "Push-In," 7 & Under (Boys & Girls Surf Together)

Boys: 10 & under; Boys: 11 – 14 

Girls: 10 & under; Boys: 11 – 14

City Lifeguard Pancake Breakfast

Saturday & Sunday, 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Join us behind Marine Safety Headquarters (clock tower) for a hot and hearty pancake breakfast before you compete in one of the athletic events or start your day of fun in the sun.

 

So come on down with friends, family and fellow athletes for a hearty serving of pancakes and sausages served with orange juice or coffee. It’s a great way to start the day!

27th Annual Woody Car Exhibit

Saturday & Sunday, 8:30 a.m. – 2:45 p.m

Where there is sand and surfing, you are likely to see Woody cars. In the 1960’s surfers found the roomy old Woody station wagons a convenient way to take their longboards to the ocean in search of the “perfect wave."

Watch for these incredible vehicles parading down from Ave. Del Mar and onto the pier both mornings. There will be a different set of 15 each day in a wide variety of colors and styles to see!

Ocean Art Show

Saturday & Sunday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

For those of you who would like to view the event from a different angle we have the Ocean Art Show in Parque Del Mar (the grassy area below the parking lots, north of the tunnel entrance to the beach).

 

You’ll find all sorts of ocean and beach related art – from landscapes and beachscapes; original oil and watercolor painting and giclees; photography, ceramics, stained glass and wild, crazy surfboard rug designs, jewelry, hand-crafted soaps, and all different kinds of artisan crafted pieces that make great gifts or additions to your own home!

Sand Sculpting Competition

Sunday, 6:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Teams of up to 10 people each (20 spaces available) can compete in the following categories: Castles and Things, Creatures, Family or Open on Sunday. Grab your friends, family, co-workers & club members and come to the beach on Sunday. Let us see what you can do!

Great Rubber Duck Race

Sunday, 3:30 p.m.*

As a highly anticipated finale for this incredible two-day event, the Great Rubber Duck Race has some exciting prizes waiting to go home with some lucky winners. Throughout the festival you can purchase and decorate ducks for just $5/each and then cheer them on as they “catch a wave” to the finish line on Sunday, for the final event of “The Greatest Show on Surf!”
